Spiez and Faulensee

Monday 25.6.18

This was a day for something a little bit different.
Not a flower day, but a walk by the lake and in the woods.
We had identified a walk from Spiez to Aeschi to Spiez......a good 10 miles or so.

Spiez is a town on the south shore of Lake Thun, nestled between hills and vineyards.
You can visit the medieval castle, or take a cruise on the magnificently restored Blumlisalp paddle steamer to Interlaken. We had chosen the walking option.....by the lakeshore to Faulensee, climbing up to the picturesque village of Aeschi and back to Spiez via Faulnesee.

The walk along the lakeshore to Faulensee is just delightful and takes around 1h40m. The path hugs the shore and is easy walking.....it is known as the 'strandweg'. 2014 was the 100th anniversary of the Strandweg and it was marked by the provision of new benches...each with thought provoking inscriptions .....in German.
The path leads past a fishery with a shallow pool full of a variety of lake fish.....there are posters to help you identify them.
You will also find sculptures along the track....look out for 'Meeting Point'.....a small metal structure that projects out into the lake....lovely.
