Wildflower days around Coniston, South Lakes THE OLD RAILWAY LINE

There is a delightful circular walk from Coniston along the old railway track to Torver and then returning to Coniston either via Hoathwaite Campsite, out along the track behind Backenground and down through the woods to the lake shore, or by crossing the road at the end of the 'line', passing a small caravan site on your right and then following the lanes up to Torver Garage.....from there follow the road towards Sunnybank and then take the path to the lakeshore.

The railway track part of the walk follows the course of the long defunct Coniston railway.
The first passenger train was on 18.6.1859 and the last one was on 4.10.1958......just less than 100years. The development of a footpath is a fitting way to use the old track.....and a delight for the amateur botanist. It's pretty good if you are interested in Fungi too.
